Behind the glitz and glam, and red carpet appearances, you just never know what someone is going through. While doing her promo rounds for her new memoir, ‘Matriarch,’ which was released today (April 22nd), Tina Knowles opened up about her private battle with breast cancer. She reveals she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year in July, after missing her regular mammograms during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her daughter Beyoncé, had only just released her new album "Cowboy Carter" two months prior, and Tina was everywhere plugging the project, and bigging up her daughter on social media.
No one would ever think she was battling breast cancer. When Tina finally did go and have her mammogram, doctors found Stage 1 breast cancer in her left breast. She had surgery to have it removed, and is now cancer-free. Their father Mathew Knowles also battled the male version of breast cancer in 2019, and revealed he has the BRCA2 gene mutation. His daughters, Beyoncé and Solange, have tested negative for the BRCA2 mutation. Beyoncé is said to have taken her mother's diagnosis really well, while Solange would loved to have kicked cancer's ass like she did with Jay-Z in that elevator.
