Are we truly buying that Serena Williams wasn't firing shots at her ex-boyfriend Drake when she did her Crip Walk during Kendrick Lamar’s halftime Super Bowl performance?
She denies her viral Super Bowl appearance had anything to do with Drake in a new interview with Time, and said, “Obviously I can see how someone would think that, but absolutely not. I have never had negative feelings towards him. We’ve known him for so many years.” As for critics who questioned the optics of her dissing an ex while married, Serena made it clear she wasn’t concerned: “We’re investing in women and in sports. This is literally the last thing on our minds. Come on.”
I think she is not being honest with herself. Of all the Super Bowl performances she could have chosen, she picked this specific one, a Drake slaughtering massacre. Her contribution was just the final nail in the coffin.
No one is going to come out and say they were deliberately dissing their ex, because she doesn't want that smoke. Secondly, she is not going to want to send messages to the ex to show she is still salty and feels some way about their break-up. And lastly, a denial also saves face so that she isn't coming across like she's disrespecting her husband.
