A visionary artist these days has sadly now become a rarity. If you grew up admiring the likes of Michael Jackson and Madonna, you would appreciate real showmanship. The music industry is now plagued with music influencers with very little talent. It's all about catchy hooks to attract the TikTok crowd, but no effort goes into creativity, live vocals, choreography and storytelling. You never get those issues with Lady Gaga, and her Coachella set over the weekend was proof of that.
The nearly two-hour visually stunning performance, covered 22 songs from her extensive dance pop catalogue, which included old classics like "Poker Face" and "Paparazzi" to songs from her new album "Mayhem." The entire set, which saw the singer create an opera house in the desert, was a visual spectacle from beginning to end. One thing Gaga is going to do is give you vocals, theatrics and visuals. Gaga is a theatre kid at heart, and her Coachella set emphasises that to the fullest. She didn’t just perform that day; she possessed the moment. As a true visionary, Gaga puts a lot of effort, love, and passion into her art.
Now when discussing her set, a lot of comparisons are occurring between hers and Beyoncé's captivating 2018 headlining performance, known best as Beychella. I won't say who had the better performance, because it is all down to personal preference. If you're into something more theatrical and visually stunning, of course you would prefer Gaga.
But if you preferred something that had cultural impact, and more intricate choreography, you would prefer Beyoncé. So you would not watch Gaga for intricate footwork, because Gaga is not the greatest dancer. But she more than makes up for it in other ways. Both ladies did their thing, and there is no need to put one performance down to big up the other.
