Nicki Minaj wants her $200m from Jay-Z, but won't take him to court

Nicki Minaj has called out Jay-Z over a $200m “karmic debt,” urging him to settle up, before the interest piles up.

Minaj claims Jay-Z owes her up to $200m, which is tied to her equity in Tidal. Minaj was one of 15 artists gifted a 3  percent stake in the streaming service in the aftermath of its 2015 launch. She alleges that she was offered only $1m for her share, after the company was sold to Jack Dorsey’s Square in 2021.

Music CEO Steve Stoute, claims Minaj did NOT sign Tidal's equity paperwork, leaving millions on the table. She did NOT sign the paper work, and is now frustrated with herself (and him) for moving irresponsibly. It is probably why she has NOT lawyered up and taken him to court.

Not signing the paperwork means, she is NOT contractually obligated to any stake in the company. Turning to Twitter court for public opinion and support is all she can do, prompting Jay-Z's power and impact, to allegedly shut her out of social media.

Her refusal to accept the deal and speak out, demonstrates a commitment to transparency and justice, challenging the narrative, that all parties involved, were equally compensated, EXCEPT FOR HER!

She is now launching an all-out campaign against Jay-Z and Roc Nation, while highlighting how easy it is for an artist to be swindled in ownership and financial compensation.

Power dynamics of a conglomerate can silence and short change artists in ventures that claim to empower creators.

Despite being a co-owner, her experience with TIDAL, emphasises the broader issue of unfair treatment and inequities many artists face in the music industry, even with their star power and contributions.
