Music is timeless.
There are so many incredible musicians who never encounter mainstream success, or even chart. Streams don’t define quality. But they do define popularity.
Sadly, popularity, is what gets you paid. It keeps you relevant. Interestingly, mainstream acts always hold this stance when they are under pressure to have an upcoming project repeat the same numbers of previous high flyers. Artists that say they don't care about numbers are lying. They put a lot of passion and hard work into their art. Of course they want that hard work to be rewarded, and appreciated. Not that Doja Cat is saying anything wrong. However...
If her music stopped selling tomorrow, and lost its popularity, would she really not care?
