Last year, break-out artist Tyla had to cancel her 2024 world tour and Coachella performance due to a back injury. This meant, she had more time to recover for a few months, as well as rehearse, and give fans the performance of a lifetime. That chance came round over the weekend, when the 23-year-old performed at the annual music festival in Indio, California.
She brought out Becky G as a surprise musical guest, performed her singles "Water" and "Push 2 Start," and interpolated her song "On and On" with Aaliyah’s "Rock the Boat."
While her performance wasn't exactly offensive, it was not the most exciting either. The stage production was clearly on a low budget, transitions were poor, and she was out of breath from doing the bare minimum. She struggled to sing live, and barely moved on stage. Her vanishing acts were relentless, but what took the cake most of all, was when she took a moment to change her shoes on stage. Maybe she thought this would make her relatable, but it just screamed tacky. What needed revision most of all was her outfit. You would never guess it was Dolce & Gabbana!
The performance overall seemed unprofessional, unplanned, and not properly rehearsed. Many artists can only dream of having such a massive opportunity like this. It was her opportunity to show the world that she actually has some talent, and isn't just coasting on her looks.
Unfortunately, this performance did nothing to dispel those rumors of the South African being an industry plant. Tyla is extremely beautiful, but beauty can only take you so far. If she chooses not to fix up, then sadly, Tyla may very well fade out completely in two years, and several people will probably end up losing their jobs!
