Big news! Hot off the heals of releasing her brand new single "Type Dangerous," Mariah Carey shares the news, that she has chosen Gamma Records, for a multi-album deal. The label, that has been assigned, to release her 16th studio project!
Are we hearing that correctly? A multi multi album deal? Really? Signing a multi album deal at this stage in her career, just doesn't seem logical.
Outside of the Lambily, the record buying public, are not consuming Mariah's music in that way. As a result, those multiple album drops, will underperform, massively. She's a legend. She puts out quality music. She stays true to herself, and, more importantly, her artistic integrity is never compromised.
It can never be denied that she deserves to sell millions, but sadly, she won't. Record label Gamma, which has earned $400 million from investors, is founded by former Apple Music mastermind Larry Jackson. That's interesting! Will Spotify sabotage Mariah, for choosing to work with someone so closely connected to Apple Music?
"I'm excited to be part of something that honors legacy, while pushing boundaries," says Mariah. "This next chapter is about owning my narrative, and creating freely on my own terms.”
Key word being, "own terms." She's choosing to move away from all the major labels, to release her music to the fans, in a way that doesn't elicit so much pressure.
Perhaps a multi-album deal could mean two albums only, to test the waters. She's a smart woman. We can only trust she knows what she's doing, and the path she's chosen to embark on!
